Thai Writing: Sightseeing

Sightseeing-BookI discovered Rattawut Lapcharoensap in a Bangkok bookstore (Asia Books). Rattawut did his advanced studies in the US, and this his first book, a collection of short stories, is set in his native Thailand. I enjoyed the speed of his prose especially in Don't Let Me Die in This Place and Cockfighter. The farang lurks in every tale, tales of family, of parent and child, of people in a difficult society, of the farang in Thailand.

(farang: reference to foreigners, mostly Western, but in Cockfighter, Mayuree is probably Indian.)
